9/17/2023 0 Comments Example of transmission lightMeanwhile, muddy waters appear green or even brown because of how little light they leave to scatter. Because blue and green visible light penetrate water better than the shorter and longer wavelengths that flank them, clear water appears blue to us. The suspended particles that affect water’s turbidity absorb light, which allows more light to pass through clearer water. Water clarity, or turbidity, varies within the oceans and across bodies of water, and that affects how light passes through. Conversely, we also know about the Mississippi River, which we call “the Big Muddy” for very good reasons. We’ve seen pictures of the crystal-clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea-or even seen them firsthand. Water’s index of refraction is 1.333, indicating that it slows down the transmission of light considerably-but less so than plate glass at 1.5 or a diamond at 2.4. The index of refraction of atmospheric air is close to 1 (only a vacuum is exactly 1). We measure this by assigning water an index of refraction. Water slows the transmission of light, which causes the rays to bend. Water does two things to visible light: it reflects some rays and bends, or refracts, others. Here we’ll examine some of the properties of light in water and how we measure that light. When you’re working with lights, it can be important to know about light transmission in the ocean and other bodies of water-how it reflects, refracts, and otherwise behaves as it passes through. They’re deeply unpleasant to think about, so let’s step back.Ībove the benthic deep, light still travels through water, but not the way it does on land. That’s where we find those very strange fish that live their entire lives in the dark. As we go deeper and deeper into the water, we reach a stratum that even sunlight doesn’t reach. The vastness of the ocean has fascinated human beings for years. 9/17/2023 0 Comments Life is strange 2 episode 5 reviewThere’s something strangely tragic about the fact that at the moment, they technically are canon compliant if you assume that a painful break-up in which Spock ultimately chooses his engagement with T’Pring is why Chapel spends so much time pining over him in The Original Series. On the other hand, Peck and Jess Bush also have great chemistry, which means we really are spoiled for choice in terms of Spock’s romantic options. Gia Sandhu has put in the work in just a handful of brief appearances to make T’Pring a three-dimensional figure with real layers-her appearance this week is as much about her difficult relationship with her overbearing mother as it is her engagement to Spock-and even though I know their courtship is technically canonically doomed, part of me wants them to figure out a way to work things out despite all that. Rather than make T’Pring a roadblock to Spock’s greater happiness or a cautionary tale about living a life driven by duty, Strange New Worlds has instead reimagined her as a genuine partner for him, a likable woman in her own right who honestly seems more than capable of making him happy. To the show’s credit, it’s done a rather remarkable job of creating a situation in which all characters and relationships involved in this story are compelling and easy to root for. (The scene where Amanda tries to be as gentle as possible in fulfilling the terms of the ceremony that requires her to openly belittle her future daughter-in-law is such a lovely and quietly powerful commentary about how she chooses to live her life.)īut, to be honest, I’m still not entirely sure about how I feel about the Spock/Chapel/T’Pring triangle. The return of Discovery’s Mia Kirschner as Amanda Grayson adds a welcome extra layer to her son’s complicated emotional experience, if only in the ways it reflects the different but no less difficult choices she’s made to bind herself to a culture that openly dislikes and belittles her simply for loving Sarek. Peck has worked hard to position his Spock as a character who sits somewhere between Leaonard Nimoy’s and Zachary Quinto’s versions, a young man who’s still trying to figure out what it means to be half human and half Vulcan, and to carry the judgments and expectations of both his people with him while still never feeling completely at home in either culture. By the time we get to the part where he’s playing a Vulcan who’s been turned human pretending to still be Vulcan to pass the stringent series of tests that come along with his official engagement dinner and differentiating between them all with the smallest of facial tics, you’ll probably be mad all over again that sci-fi actors never get any respect during awards season (or maybe that’s just me).īut, like so many other Strange New Worlds installments, this hour is also a story that wrestles with deeper emotional issues than it appears at first glance. It’s easy to forget sometimes, particularly because most of the Star Trekshows in the franchise at the moment aren’t terribly interested in fun as a concept-we love you, Lower Decks!-how delightful a low stakes episode that really only wants to make us laugh can be. Peck’s physical and verbal timing throughout this installment is fairly incredible, as he plays a Spock drowning under the combined weight of all the hormones, hunger, and rage that come along with being forced into what is essentially a human adolescence by well-meaning aliens who are trying to fix whatever their extra-dimensional tractor beam broke inside him during a shuttle accident.įrom his constant snacking to his intense, irrational dislike of Sam Kirk and his utter lack of understanding when it comes to social cues and physical boundaries, Peck gets to play the kind of big emotional swings his character is usually not allowed to acknowledge, and his face-normally so calm and stoic-is a non-stop meme generator of eye-rolls and over the top reaction shots. ![]() And “Charades” is possibly Peck’s best episode to date, an hour that allows him to stretch his wings as an actor in many different directions. Ethan Peck has always been one of Strange New Worlds’ most potent secret weapons, taking on the almost impossible task of playing a character so thoroughly connected to other performers and somehow managing to make his interpretation feel both fresh and deeply necessary to our understanding of who Spock is. The 220Ω resistor is connected along the positive supply for the back light in order to limit the current. The 10K pot is used to adjust the contrast of the screen. 9/17/2023 0 Comments Plant vs zombies garden warfare 2![]() Defeated gnomes in Infinity Time drop time shards the more shards you collect, the better your rewards at the end. While the mode is endless, there is something of a goal here. However, instead of playing as a Plant or a Zombie, you’re placed in the metal frame of a giant mech, which has abilities of its own and helps to make the mode feel a little different from the Graveyard and Garden Ops. This new mode also supports up to four players where you try to survive as long as possible against a relentless horde of garden gnomes that are bent on destroying time. So, if you’re itching to play some Gnome Bomb, Suburbination, or Herbal Assault with your friends but not against other players, you can.įinally, completing the single-player quests for either the Plants or the Zombies unlocks a new challenge, Infinity Time. bots in all of the game’s multiplayer modes. Additionally, Garden Warfare 2 has added the ability to play against enemy A.I. Garden Ops, a horde mode for up to four players where you have to defend a point against ten waves of zombies, returns from the original game, and the Zombies now have their own version with Graveyard Ops. Local co-op is now supported (on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions only). While some aspects of the game have suffered a bit, the co-op is stronger than ever. Still, there’s a feeling that the Zombies are a little outgunned and a little less adaptive to the dynamic situations that often arise when you’re in the mix of things. EA patched the game recently to address some of the balancing issues in the game, and that has helped. I mainly noticed this while playing through the single-player and co-op modes, but it was enough that it made me hesitant to even try and engage in any multiplayer. ![]() When I first started playing a couple weeks ago, I noticed that, on the whole, the Zombies felt like they took more damage and died quicker than their vegetative counterparts. Completing the quests from the bounty board does provide you with an experience multiplier that will make leveling easier the second, third, or tenth time around, but between the coins and this new system, there’s a distinct “grinding” aspect to Garden Warfare 2.Īdditionally, having that many different playable characters in a game will naturally lead to a lot of imbalances when you do face off against foes. If you want to get those same upgrades for Cosmic, you’ll have to go through that whole leveling process again. Then you open a sticker pack and nab one of his variants, Cosmic Brainz. You play as him a lot, level him up, and unlock some upgrades. Let’s say you really enjoy playing one of the new characters for the Zombies, Super Brainz.
